After piloting a successful fashion design camp last year, we’re excited to bring our popular Fashion Forward Summer Camp back for a 2nd year! Be The Change Foundation has designed this program for grades 7-12 students who are passionate about fashion and sustainability. As we advocate for global awareness of environmental issues, sustainable fashion practices become more important. We aim to educate and empower our students to make eco-friendly fashion choices and to contribute actively to a greener future.
CAMP DATES & TIMES
Dates: June 22 - 26, 2026
Location: Palo Alto High School (in Palo Alto, CA)
Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM daily; except on the final day, we will end at 7:00 PM for our final fashion show!
CAMP DETAILS
Ages: Rising 7th to 12th graders, or around ages 12 to 18.
Experience: Any level is welcome.
Materials: All materials will be provided. However, if you have any old, unwanted clothes, we encourage students to bring in any old clothes that can be recycled and reused to design a new look.
Food: Snacks, drinks, and lunch will be provided daily. However, if your child has food allergies or dietary restrictions, you may want to pack your own lunches.
Price: We ask for a $1,099 donation to Be the Change Foundation. This will help cover the costs of our camp instructors, materials, food, and modeling photography.
Over a week, students will learn from fashion experts how to design, construct, and model their own sustainable fashion looks, and gain experience on what it takes to be a fashion designer. Our students will acquire knowledge in:
- From Fashion Industry Experts - what it takes to be a fashion designer and what it’s really like working in the fashion industry. (Last year, our guest speaker was from Michael Kors. This year, we will be announcing soon who our guest speakers will be.)
- Education on Sustainable Fashion - why it’s important to reduce clothing waste and how to be socially and environmentally responsible when it comes to our clothes. This includes learning about sustainable materials, ethical manufacturing processes, and the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
- Creative and Authentic Expression - gain hands-on skills across all aspects of fashion design to create 2 amazing outfits! Students will:
-- Explore their creativity to sketch their design concept
-- Use dress patterns, do size measurements, and select their own fabrics
-- Sew and learn to use a sewing machine
-- Complete final construction of 2 garments (i.e., dress, top, pants, jacket) for our catwalk
- Community and Teamwork - build confidence to work effectively across teams, collaborate with other students, and manage time productively to get 2 looks done in 1 week!
- Sustainable Fashion Show – learn how to be a model! A modeling instructor will show the students how to model their own clothes. On the final night, we’ll host a fashion show to celebrate all of their unique designs. Each student will walk the catwalk and pose for photos like a pro!
FINAL FASHION SHOW – FRIDAY, JUNE 26, 5:00-7:00PM
On the final day of camp, we invite all the parents to come celebrate the end of a work week, and join us from 5:00 –7:00p in the classroom. Our students will have their outfits ready, as we cheer them on to walk down the catwalk and share their new looks in our final fashion show!
A professional photographer will be on-site to take modeling shots. These photos are a great way for our students to start building their fashion design portfolios. (A Google Drive folder will be available afterwards for you to download all of your own child’s photos.)
Light refreshments will also be served.
